Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is important for improving the number as well as the quality of traffic to your website via organic search results. See our 5 point checklist of things you can do to make sure your website is getting its SEO right;

1. Title tags and meta descriptions
New content management systems usually do this automatically, however check and make sure that every page has relevant Title and Meta Description tags. Why does this matter? Title tags and meta descriptions help to improve click-through rates, helps users navigate through the page more easily as well as enable search engine crawlers to move through your website faster.

2. HTTPS security
The whole world wide web is moving towards encrypted connections. Google has been recommending websites to use https (or encrypted connections ) for over 2 years now. Please make sure your site has https.

3. Device optimisation
Optimising your content for mobile devices is very important. Apart form a better user experience Google’s ranking system will now typically look at the mobile version of a page’s content to evaluate its relevance to the user. Mobile optimisation, therefore, plays a significant role in helping improve your Google search results. Check to see if your website is mobile optimised.

4. Google Analytics
Sign up for a Google Analytics account. Is it free and is a great tool used for website optimisation. The web analytics tool allows you to track and record user activity on a website such as a website traffic, keywords, session duration, bounce rate and much more. If you are new to Google Analytics don't worry google offers great online tutorials and you can even access a demo account. It's a great way to look at real business data and experiment with Google Analytics features.

5. Internal linking
Internal linking refers to any links from one page on a domain which lead to another page on that same domain. There are practices that people publishing articles or content on your website should follow to help push traffic around the site and lead to higher trust signals for Google. Ensure that whenever you build a new piece of content, such as on your blog, that you are including links to relevant and important landing pages. This will ensure that any links you build to your content will also have a secondary benefit on the pages you’ve internally linked to. Links within content typically pass greater value because they are surrounded by contextual words which can have another benefit in terms of ranking for these related phrases. Add internal links in moderation. Every link you include in a page will receive a portion of the link authority of that page, so the more links you include, the less value each will receive.
